Picnic in Brighton

Lucky for us, the beautiful SUNday we went picnicking by the beach in Brighton. Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy the view of the sea. Khayr literally had the sea all to himself. He was busy scooping the pebbles and went for long walks with his best friend. Although we had the sea, he did not miss the chance to get on the 'bus' and enjoyed a ride in Noddy's car.

Row, row, row your boat

No Raya open house to go this year, we decided to visit Cambridge and its renowned academia. The sun was out and so we had a go at rowing! Many a folks had chosen to punt along the canal, but knowing how 'fit' we were, canoe was the choice for us. Great experience, especially listening to Khayr singing.. "Row, row, row your boat... gently down the stream..."

Eid Mubarak 2008

Flat 81's kitchen was closed for the night, as the whole family headed out for Eid dinner. We saw many folks in bright, multi coloured outfits, possibly Muslims who were also celebrating the glorious Eid. Not to mention a few Malaysians proudly cladded in the national costumes. Well, ours was a much, much lower scale celebration with a simple dinner at a Persian restaurant. Since it was so long ago since we had it and the timing of this fotopage entry, I could not even recall the menu we'd chosen. Pic of the foodies.. (nothing compares to good ol rendang, lemang, ketupat, lontong..)

1st Footie Match

We walked along Putney Bridge with sheer excitement to watch Fulham vs. Portsmouth. The team from the South was already ranked no.5 in the Premier League table, but we had high hopes for Fulham after their amazing performance against Manchester City and Chelsea. Alas, the 2nd half had dashed all our hopes of singing along back home with the rest of the Fulham fans in glory. The score was 2-0 for Portsmouth.

Khayr left the 'Cottage' with a cheery face having made friend with the nice li'l guy seated next to him and offered him biscuits. We forgot to ask his name though.

A Week of Separation

That morning, Khayr cried after sending me off and watching the taxi leaving for the airport. Never had the 2 of us been separated for so long, the whole journey was much dreaded even before it started. I'd drawn up a little calendar in many different colours and pasted it on the fridge door. Each day I asked Ira to get Khayr to 'cross-out' the coloured bubble which marked a day closer to my coming home.

Each day, I would call him once at noon and another before his bedtime. I promised him a toy for each day that I was gone. On the last night in Houston, Texas, I made a quick trip from the hotel to Galleria shopping mall. Probably because of short of time, but, I simply couldnt find any good toys for Khayr. At least those that he would really like.

On the last day, I panicked. Managed to buy a bright yellow miniature taxi from Katz deli. It should complement the double-decked buses and black cab in Khayr's collections. At the airport, I spotted the airport playset with the 'air force one', heli and 'secret service' cars. And also a super soft souvies horse with 'Texas' stitched on its body. All made in China of course.
